2026 Formula 1 World Championship
Hungarian Grand Prix
Round 11
Hungaroring
Budapest, Hungary
Sunday 26 July
Charles Leclerc hopes to close the gap on the Mercedes drivers at the top of the championship by delivering a strong performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Most recent race
The Ferrari driver produced a brilliant performance to finish second in the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on 19 July.
Leclerc pushed hard from the front row and came close to victory, marking another strong result in a consistent 2026 season.
Formula One ambitions
Leclerc – the 2018 FIA Rookie of the Year – sits fourth in the Drivers’ Championship with 126 points after 10 races.
The 28-year-old trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli (204), Lewis Hamilton (159) and George Russell (154), while holding a solid position ahead of the McLaren drivers.
Why Leclerc could win at the Hungarian GP
Leclerc has enjoyed a strong 2026 season with four podiums already and back-to-back top-two finishes in the last two races.
The Monegasque has shown excellent race pace and consistency, making the twisty Hungaroring a circuit where his one-lap speed and tyre management could give Ferrari a real chance of victory.
Quotes
“I believed in the possibility of taking the win until the end. I had a good start, passing George (Russell) and Max (Verstappen) out of Eau Rouge with strong deployment,” Leclerc said after his second-place finish at the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix.
“The Virtual Safety Car helped to put us in contention for the win, and it was really enjoyable to lead the race and fight for that position until the closing laps, even if it was down to a bit of luck on our side.
“Overall, we had good pace, which is something we didn’t expect on a track such as Spa-Francorchamps. A big thank you to everyone at the track and back in Maranello for continuing to push so hard.”
