2025-26 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 30
Girona v Villarreal
Estadio Municipal de Montilivi
Girona, Spain
Monday, 6 April 2026
Kick-off is at 21h00
Villarreal will be keen to avoid any further slip-ups in La Liga as they head up the eastern coast to face Girona at Montilivi on Monday, April 6.
The Yellow Submarine returned to winning ways when they beat Real Sociedad 3-1 on March 20 to reclaim third place from Atletico Madrid, who lost 3-2 to Real Madrid two days later.
Marcelino’s side have impressed this season, losing just three of their opening 16 matches before hitting a little bump in the road in January.
However, Castellon outfit have won five of their last eight games, only dropping points against Getafe (a 2-1 defeat), Barcelona (a 4-1 defeat) and Alaves (a 1-1 draw).
Villarreal are still on course to smash their points record for a league campaign (77) which came in 2007-08 when they finished second under Manuel Pellegrini.

The Blanquivermells are by no means safe yet after a 1-0 loss to Osasuna on March 21 left them with just one win from their last five outings.
Michel’s side boosted their survival hopes with a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao one week prior to open up a six-point gap to the relegation zone.
But remains unchanged after Real Mallorca (18th) also lost on matchday 29, but Girona have dropped to 13th spot following Valencia’s 2-0 victory against Sevilla.

Marcelino praised his players for putting the club in such a strong position going into the final stretch and has urged them to main that winning mentality in the race to finish third.
“We are 20 points ahead of this great team (Sociedad). We are also far ahead of [Real] Betis and Celta [Vigo], and I don’t think that’s a coincidence,” he said.
“We have 58 points at this stage. All of this speaks volumes about these players. We are in the final stretch. There are only nine matches left and we are third.
“Atletico [Madrid] have a tough match, and we have managed to win a game that looked very difficult as well. We have to keep going and maintain this winning mentality.”
