Brazil secured top spot in Group C at the 2026 World Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over Scotland in Miami on Thursday morning.

Goals from Vinicius Junior (2) and Matheus Cunha put the Canarinho into a Round of 32 clash against the runner-up of Group F (likely Japan or Sweden) in Houston on Monday evening (19:00).

As for the Scots, they finished third in the group (Morocco were second, Haiti eliminated in fourth) and will wait to see if they have done enough to be one of the eight best-ranked such finishers.

Scotland started brightly, but a defensive error saw them go behind in the seventh minute: Scott McKenna’s attempted pass from the penalty area was charged down by Rayan – the ball fell kindly for Vinicius, who dummied his way past goalkeeper Angus Gunn and tapped home for 1-0.

Brazil thought they had claimed a second goal midway through the first half when Vinicius stole the ball off Jack Hendry before firing beyond Gunn, but the goal was ruled out, after a VAR review, for a foul from the Real Madrid forward.

The South Americans kept up the attacking pressure and were rewarded with a second goal in injury time, as Vinicius got on the end of a cross from Bruno Guimaraes and headed home at the back post to see his side in full control at the interval.

Early in the second half, the Scots almost pulled a goal back via Scott McTominay, but his header on goal was well saved by Alisson. Vini Junior also had a great chance to complete his hat-trick in the 51st minute, but Gunn pulled off a great stop to keep the Tartan Army clinging to hope.

However, that was extinguished on the hour mark when Brazil racked up goal number three, with a quick passing movement completed by Guimaraes teeing up Matheus Cunha to drive a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Canarinho were even able to give veteran forward Neymar a cameo in the final stages, as he replaced Cunha with just under 15 minutes of regulation time remaining.
