2026/27 Premier League
Matchday 3
Manchester City vs Coventry City
Etihad Stadium, Manchester
Saturday 5 September, 16:00
Manchester City will chase a third straight win at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season when they host Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium on the afternoon of Saturday 5 September, kick-off at 16:00.
Form
Man City racked up a second successive win in the new league season when they defeated Crystal Palace 4-1 in London last Friday, with a pair of goals from each of Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
Coventry, meanwhile, suffered a second loss from as many games in their return to the Premier League, going down 1-0 at home to fellow promoted club Hull City this past weekend.
Team news
Man City will hope Jeremy Doku is able to return from the calf injury he suffered against Arsenal in the Community Shield match, though Matheus Nunes remains unavailable.
Coventry are expected to be without Haji Wright and Kaine Kesler-Hayden.
Head-to-head
Man City and Coventry have met in 64 matches across all competitions. The Citizens have claimed 28 wins compared to 21 for the Sky Blues, while 15 games have been drawn.
The teams last crossed paths in the 2001/02 First Division, with Coventry winning 4-3 at home, but City claimed revenge with a 4-3 triumph of their own in the return game.
Quotes
Man City manager Enzo Maresca on the influence of Cherki: “For sure he’s happy. His performance for me was very good not just the two goals but the way he worked off the ball. When Palace had the ball, he was in charge of Adam Wharton, I think his game was a complete game on the ball and off the ball.
“Probably he was not playing at his level in the first half. But we were happy with his performance off the ball. Then second half he scored twice and for sure he’s much more happy.”
