Liverpool will set out on a revenge mission when they face Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes for the first leg of a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, set for the evening of Wednesday 8 April, kick-off at 21:00 CAT.

The Reds’ chance at avenging last season’s last 16 exit at the hands of the Parisians was earned by overcoming Galatasaray 4-1 on aggregate in the previous round. The Premier League side appeared to be in trouble in the tie when they were beaten 1-0 in the first leg in Istanbul.

However, Liverpool roared back in the return game at Anfield, winning 4-0 on the night thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah. The victory not only saw the Reds through to the final eight of the continental competition, but set up a tie with last season’s champions, PSG.

“They’re [PSG] an incredible team,” admitted Liverpool coach Arne Slot. “We faced them last season [in the round of 16]. Here at Anfield we played a fantastic game against them, the best game I’ve managed in my career. Both teams just playing football to entertain the fans. We were the only team that brought them to extra time and penalties. They’ve shown this season that they haven’t dropped a level.”

Liverpool come into the clash on a low note, having exited the FA Cup this past weekend with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City. The Reds will also be without regular first-choice goalkeeper Alisson due to a hamstring issue.

In head-to-head terms, PSG and Liverpool have met in six matches, dating back as far as the 1996-7 Cup Winners’ Cup. Both teams have recorded three wins, with zero draws between them.

The Parisians and the Merseysiders met in the last 16 round of last season’s Champions League, with each team winning 1-0 away from home for a 1-1 aggregate tie. PSG then won 4-1 on penalties to advance, going on to win the tournament for the first time.
