It can be said that McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has been a shadow of the driver that challenged for the 2025 Formula 1 title and will now look to the British Grand Prix to kick start his campaign.

As it stands, Piastri currently occupies fourth on the drivers’ standings after accumulating just 80 points after eight races so far. Piastri’s last podium finish came at the Miami Grand Prix, where he finished the race in third position while teammate Lando Norris finished in second.

Piastri’s best showing this season came at the Japanese Grand Prix in March where he concluded the race in P2, +13.722s behind eventual winner Kimi Antonelli.

With McLaren battling for pace alongside the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes, Piastri claimed fourth at the recent Austrian Grand Prix this past weekend with Norris ending in a low P7 to complete a frustrating weekend for the Papayas.

In assessing McLaren’s showing at the Red Bull Ring, Piastri felt as though his team couldn’t have done much more to get further up the order, especially after another gruelling race in Barcelona last week.

We put a lot of effort into understanding why Barcelona was so tricky, I think we understood why, and attacked things pretty differently for this weekend, and today in particular,” Piastri said.

And I think the result is kind of the evidence of that work. So from that side of things, I’m really happy. Just when you don’t get a trophy at the end, you always wish there was a bit more, but that was the most we could have done.”
