Brandon Pieters will be looking to draw on his early-season experience at Waterkloof Golf Club for the Betway Big Easy Tour Final from 17-19 March.
The South African rolled back the years in the third Big Easy Blue Label Invitational event of the campaign when he shot a 66 in the opening round on the same course.
Pieters held a one-stroke lead in the clubhouse before falling away over the next two days to finish T25, but he would come so close to claiming his first victory since 2017 just one month later.The 49-year-old carded a 7-under 209 to finish just one stroke behind winner Harry Konig at Soweto Country Club in September to register his second T2 in the space of three months.
Pieters, who has four Sunshine Tour victories to his name, placed T19 in last month’s Play Off and he’s hoping to surprise the younger generation in Pretoria once more by working “smarter”.
“I think all the work we did prior to the start of the season is starting to come through,” he said after his impressive performance at Waterkloof back in August.
“Our preparation; we’re changing a couple of things because us old dogs can’t work as hard as the youngsters, but we have to work smarter.
“New putter, different length putter; we are looking for any kind of edge we can get on the kids, and I got one up on them today, and it makes me feel good.”
