Jordan Spieth will be hoping for better execution as he goes in search of his first win on the PGA Tour in four years at the Valspar Championship.
The last of the American’s 13 PGA Tour victories came at the RBC Heritage in April 2022 and he’s struggled with various parts of his game since then.
Spieth has yet to record a top-10 finish this season, with his best two performances coming at the Genesis Invitational (T12) and the Arnold palmer Invitational (T11).
The 32-year-old, who is ranked No. 64 in the world, showed glimpses of his best form at the Players Championship with scores of 68 in the second round and 69 in the final round.
However, Spieth shot a disappointing 76 in the third round and eventually finished well off the pace in T32, admitting it’s not the decisions that are costing him but rather his execution.
“I’m doing everything well,” he said. “The stats aren’t necessarily showing exactly how solid things are.
“I feel like I’ve hit a lot of especially approach shots the last two weeks where I’m posing, saying, ‘man, I did my job’ and then I’m just shocked at where they end up, short or long or whatever.
“I didn’t feel like I did too much wrong, so in that sense it wasn’t like I made any decision errors. It was execution. I can swallow that a lot easier.”
