Carlos Alcaraz will look to defend his US Open title, something no man has achieved since Roger Federer in 2008.

What to know about Alcaraz

The Spanish star has collected 26 ATP singles titles throughout his career, including seven Grand Slam crowns and he completed the Career Grand Slam at the 2026 Australian Open.

Alcaraz has previously won the US Open in 2022 and 2025, along with eight Masters 1000 titles and time spent as world No. 1.

News

Alcaraz’s most recent competitive appearance was in April 2026 before a right wrist injury forced him to miss the French Open, Wimbledon, and the North American hard-court swing.

The 23-year-old confirmed his return on 20 August with the message “Here we go” and he is currently ranked world No. 2, he is expected to be a high seed in New York.

Why Alcaraz could win the US Open

Despite the long layoff, Alcaraz has a strong history at the US Open, having won the title twice (including as defending champion).

His explosive athleticism, variety and proven ability to peak on these hard courts make him one of the most dangerous players in the draw even after four months away.

Quotes

“I can guarantee that thanks to him, I am a much better tennis player.” Alcaraz said regarding his rivalry with Jannik Sinner and his return from injury.

“Having his competition there makes me give my best in every training session… I hope this season is as good as last year. You deserve all the best, and hopefully, see you on Sundays.”

“I believe I have a lot more to offer; I don’t think my best version has been seen yet… The best Alcaraz will be seen in a few years.”
