Newly-crowned Premier League champions Arsenal will be looking to ensure a party atmosphere for the away fans when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season on Sunday, May 24.

The Gunners wrapped up the title with a game to spare after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth on May 19 and Mikel Arteta’s side will receive the trophy after the match in South London.

The pressure appeared to be getting to the North Londoners last month following back-to-back 2-1 defeats against Bournemouth and Manchester City, who also beat them in the EFL Cup final on March 22.

But Arsenal won their next four games on the trot, with a 1-0 victory over Burnley on May 18 taking them five points clear of the Citizens, who then stumbled at the Vitality Stadium 24 hours later to hand the trophy to their rivals.

A top-half finish seemed to be on the cards for the Eagles after they recovered from a patchy run of form in December and January.

Oliver Glasner’s side lost just two of their next eight league outings, although the wheels have come off since their Europa League quarter-final clash with Fiorentina.

Palace have gone on to reach the final of the European competition, but their league form has once again suffered after a 2-2 draw with Brentford on May 17 extended their winless run to six matches.

The South Londoners currently occupy 15th position in the table and the best they can hope for is 14th with Leeds only two points above them, while Nottingham Forest are a further two adrift in 16th spot.

Arteta gave his customary end-of-the-season speech after their final home game against the Clarets and compared it to last year’s when they had nothing to play for.

“It’s incredible to witness what we have created in this stadium. Obviously I have memories from the past, and the comparison is unbelievable to watch. I’m so proud of that,” he said.

“Today they have created something so special outside the stadium, in the stadium. Now we have set the standards that we are responsible for maintaining because we can provide that, and we know the outcome.

“At that point [last season], we knew that we were going to finish second and we didn’t have another final to play. So, what I said to them – see you at Selhurst Park and then see you in Budapest (for the UEFA Champions League final), another two to play.”
