2026/27 Premier League, Matchday 4

Manchester United vs Manchester City

Old Trafford, Manchester

Sunday 13 September, 17:30

Manchester United and Manchester City will meet for an eagerly-anticipated derby in Matchday 4 of the Premier League, with the fixture set for Old Trafford on the late afternoon of Sunday 13 September. Kick-off is at 17:30.

Form

United have recorded one defeat, one win and one draw from their three league matches thus far. This past Sunday they drew 2-2 away to Everton – a respectable result on paper, but one the Red Devils will be frustrated with, having twice claimed the lead thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

City, meanwhile, have enjoyed a perfect start to the league season thus far. They recorded a third win from as many matches when they defeated Coventry City 1-0 this past weekend – with Erling Haaland scoring in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

Team news

United, who will be in UEFA Champions League action on Thursday, have injury doubts over Marcus Rashford, though Amad Diallo may return from an ankle injury and be available for the weekend.

City, who will face Porto in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, will hope that Jeremy Doku returns from a calf injury sustained in the Community Shield last month, while Nico O’Reilly and Iliman Ndiaye are expected to be fit for the weekend.

Head-to-head

United and City have met in 188 matches across all competitions. The Red Devils have claimed 76 wins compared to 60 for the Citizens, while 52 games have been drawn.

Last season the teams each claimed a home win over the other: City won 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium in September 2025, while United responded with a 2-0 triumph at Old Trafford in January 2026.

Quotes

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca on his side’s weekend victory:

“To be honest, I was really pleased with the win. The main reason why is nine times in this kind of game, you finish conceding. First half was 1-0 but we could have scored one or two more. We kept them alive. With 2-0 it’s a different game. The way we suffer together at the end was a good one. Defending throw ins, set pieces. Not all the wins are going to be nice, we need this kind of win in every way.”
