World No. 14 Hideki Matsuyama will be one of 17 former champions in the field competing at the Masters from 9-12 April.

He became Japan’s first player to win at Augusta after carding a 10-under 278 to beat Will Zalatoris by one stroke in 2021.

The major title was Matsuyama’s sixth career win on the PGA Tour and he’s added another five since then, the most recent being the Sentry in January 2025.

The 34-year-old narrowly missed out on a seventh victory at this year’s Phoenix Open when he lost to Chris Gotterup in a playoff to finish second.

Matsuyama achieved another top 10 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am the following weekend (T8), while his worst performance came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational when he finished T41.

The 2024 Olympic bronze medal winner will be making his 15th appearance at the Masters and has nine top-25 finishes since 2015.

Matsuyama has revealed he is yet to dry clean his iconic green jacket and carried it through the Atlanta airport following his historic triumph five years ago.

“I just was so worried that something might happen to it,” he said. ‘I didn’t want to let it out of my sight.”

Last five Masters winners

2024 – Scottie Scheffler (USA)

2023 – Jon Rahm (ESP)
