World no. 2 Roy McIlroy is set to make his first appearance since the PGA Championship at the Memorial Tournament from 4-7 June.

The Ulsterman, who completed a career Grand Slam when he won the Masters Tournament in 2025, defended his title at Augusta two months ago after beating Scottie Scheffler by one stroke.

McIlroy skipped the next two events before warming up for the second major of the season at Aronimink with a T19 at the Truist Championship, where he was hampered by a toe issue.

The 37-year-old insisted he would fine to compete at the PGA Championship, but he had to halt his practice round after just three holes on the Tuesday due to pain in his toe.

McIlroy went on to finish five strokes behind first-time major winner Aaron Rai in T7, although he’s had three weeks to recover in a bid to challenge for his second title of 2026.

The six-time major winner attempted to relieve some of the pain by removing the toenail and popping the blister, while he changed footwear and used extra padding.

“Popping the blister relieved the pressure but it was swollen and bruised, so it’s just sore. But it’s fine, all good,” McIlroy said ahead of the PGA Championship.

“I figured it out and separated the little toe from the other ones and a bit of cushion around it definitely helped. And then just going to a bigger shoe and a different style of shoe as well, a little wider and a little softer in the toe box.

“It’s half a size up and it’s a wide fit so there’s just a bit more room. I was pleasantly surprised how good it felt.

“Walking downhill, whenever your foot slides into the very end of your shoe is when it maybe gives me a bit of bother but it’s totally fine. A mountain out of a molehill.”
