Round 4: Estrella Galicia 0,0 Grand Prix of Spain

Ducati Lenovo Team’s Marc Marquez will look to bounce back to peak form when the 2026 Moto GP World Championship resumes with Round 4, the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Grand Prix of Spain, held from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 April.

Marquez – a seven-time and reigning MotoGP World Champion – has endured a difficult start in the defence of his Riders’ title. While he has recorded one win and one second-place finish in the Sprint races this season, in the full-length Grands Prix he has yet to even finish on the podium.

Marquez crashed out of the first GP in Thailand, and followed that up with underwhelming fourth and fifth-place finishes in Brazil and the United States respectively. The Spaniard’s showing at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), a track where he has enjoyed incredible dominance in the past, was especially revealing of Ducati’s lack of pace relative to runaway leaders Aprilia – though his performance was hampered by having to do a penalty long-lap in the full-length race.

Marquez therefore finds himself placed fifth on the Riders’ standings (36 points off the pace set by leader Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing) and will hope to start making progress in his quest to chase down an eighth premier class championship.

The Spaniard will receive strong support in his home Grand Prix (as will compatriots Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta, Alex Marquez, Raul Fernandez and others), but needs to get on top of the Ducati factory bikes’ struggles when the tyres are cold.

“I lose a lot of time in the first laps, because when the tyre is new, I’m not ready to ride the bike,” Marquez explained. “I don’t feel good.”

Marquez is a three-time winner of the Spanish Grand Prix in MotoGP, taking the chequered flag in 2014, 2018 and 2019. At last year’s event in Jerez, Marquez won the Sprint, but only managed 12th place in the GP – his worst finishing result of the season. However, it was still a happy day for his family, as younger brother Alex Marquez won a Grand Prix for the first time.
