Nothing less than three points will do for Real Madrid when they welcome La Liga strugglers Alaves to the Bernabeu on Tuesday, April 21.
Los Blancos need a miracle to stop arch-rivals Barcelona from retaining the league title after they faltered once more on matchday 31.
Alvaro Arbeloa’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona on April 10 which further dented their championship challenge after Real Mallorca beat them 2-1 six days earlier.
Real are now nine points behind the Blaugrana with nine games left to play and they’ve already lost three times in the new year.

The Babazorros have only lost one of their last five matches, but the threat of relegation remains real as the three teams below them have all made up some ground in recent weeks.
Quique Flores’ side played out to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Sociedad on April 11 which extended their unbeaten run to four outings, but Elche (18th), Levante (19th) and Real Oviedo (20th) all won their respective games.
The Basque outfit are now just one point clear of Los Franjiverdes in 17th position, although there is just a two-point difference to Rayo Vallecano in 13th spot.
Arbeloa doesn’t believe that his team are out of the title race just yet, insisting they will continue to take the fight to Barca no matter how hopeless the situation might look.
“No [there isn’t a sense that the league was lost today]. I’ll feel that way the day we actually lose it,” he said.
“Until we lose it, we’ll keep fighting. And if we lose it one day, the only thing left for us to do is to go out every match to defend our badge and give the best image. This is Real Madrid, and until the very last day, we must fight.”
