2026/27 La Liga, Matchday 3
Real Madrid vs Malaga
Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid
Sunday 30 August, 17:00
Real Madrid will be confident of claiming all three points on offer when they welcome Malaga to the Bernabeu Stadium for a La Liga clash on the afternoon of Sunday 30 August, kick-off at 17:00 CAT.
Form
Real, who will be in action in midweek in a catch-up fixture against Real Sociedad, opened their La Liga campaign with a hard-earned 2-1 away win over Espanyol this past weekend, with Jude Bellingham and Carlos Espi scoring the goals for Los Blancos.
Malaga were in action on Monday night, playing out a 1-1 home draw against Deportivo in which they cancelled out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s opener via Chupete.
Team news
Real are set to be without Aurelien Tchouameni, Endrick, Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy due to injury, while Bellingham will be closely monitored after taking a knock to the ankle at the weekend.
For Malaga, Aaron Ochoa will return from suspension, while Diego Murillo, Fernando Calero, Moussa Diarra, Adrian Nino and Carlos Dotor remain absent due to injuries.
Head-to-head
Real and Malaga have met in 79 matches across all competitions. Los Blancos have claimed 51 wins compared to 10 for Los Boquerones, while 18 games have been drawn.
The teams last met in La Liga in 2017/18, with Real completing a league ‘double’ by winning 3-2 at home and 2-1 away.
Quotes
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho: “I think we deserved to win, but Espanyol didn’t deserve to lose. In the second half, we maintained great control and applied a lot of pressure; we took a lot of risks. We deserved to win. But a team that plays like Espanyol, that defends like that and counterattacks like that, with players pushing themselves to the limit and good organization, it’ll be tough for them to go home empty-handed. But we deserved it.”
