Manchester United are already under intense scrutiny as they welcome Ipswich Town to Old Trafford for a Premier League clash on Sunday 30 August, kick-off at 17:30 CAT.

Form

United’s season got off to an awful start this past Saturday, as they slumped to a 2-0 away defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Hull City.

Ipswich, meanwhile, marked their return to the top flight with a 2-1 home win over Sunderland at Portman Road on Saturday, featuring goals from Emersonn (24’) abd Jack Clarke (90’).

Team news

Man Utd will be without Amad Diallo due to an ankle injury, while incoming midfielder Carlos Baleba is also out until late September/early October. Midfielder Mason Mount could return to availability after missing the defeat to Hull.

Ipswich will be without Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor, but Florentino Luis could be back to fitness after a minor knock.

Head-to-head

Man United and Ipswich have met in 59 matches across all competitions. The Red Devils have claimed 30 wins compared to 19 for the Tractor Boys, while 10 games have been drawn.

The teams last met in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, with United winning 3-2 at home before a 1-1 draw in the return game at Portman Road.

Quotes

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick:

“Some of it was okay, there’s bits to improve on. It was never going to be perfect, but going behind and giving ourselves a lot to do makes it more difficult. It was a typical one of those games, with a newly-promoted team at home. You can’t give them much, they’ve got a lot to hold on to. After that, we had moments and opportunities but we didn’t have the spark to put the chances away or create any more. We’re bitterly disappointed with the result, but we won’t let it knock us.”
